Paving projects, annexation on Chesterton agenda Monday

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the town hall.

At that meeting, Street Commissioner John Schnadenberg could announce his list of 2015 paving projects.

It’s also possible that the council will award the contract for a new fire engine. Seven bids were received, which ranged from $465,803 to $584,961 for a new model. The complexity of the bid packages, however, could mean that Fire Chief John Jarka and Town Attorney Chuck Lukmann have not yet finished reviewing them.

Also on the agenda: a proposed annexation agreement with Liberty Township property owner Richard Blount, who in January asked the council to annex 4.7 acres on the south side of 1100N just west of Dogwood Park. There are six buildable lots on the acreage, in addition to one existing home.

Other items of business:

* The annual license agreement with the operator of the season vegetable market in the municipal parking lot across the street from the town hall.

* A proposed contract with the Grossbauer Group to provide IT services to the town.

* The annual fire protection agreement with the Westchester Board.

* Second reading on an ordinance codifying a new Personnel Policy Handbook.

* A resolution under which the town would implement a mercury-free purchasing policy.

* And some housekeeping amendments to the town’s Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinance.

Redevelopment Commission

Earlier in the evening, at 6:30 p.m., the Redevelopment Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting.

The commission could award at that meeting the contract for the Downtown sidewalk project, under which the sidewalk on the north side of Broadway from South Calumet Road to the parking lot of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce will be replaced.

Schnadenberg could also announce his 2015 TIF projects as well.
