Chesterton planners to learn more about proposed senior living community

The Chesterton Advisory Plan Commission will have a preliminary hearing Thursday for the proposed 162-unit StoryPoint Senior Living Community on Dickinson Rd.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at Chesterton Town Hall, 726 Broadway.

At its April meeting, the Commission received a letter from StoryPoint Development Officer Aaron Seymour telling of plans for 120 independent living apartments and 42 enriched living apartments.

It would also have amenities like a dining facility and a bistro, activity areas, library, banking, postal service, barber/salon, fitness rooms and multi-purpose rooms.

The development will be located north of Addison Pointe Health and Rehab Center and Porter Health’s Chesterton Medical Center.

Porter Health is currently the owner of the parcel and is the petitioner in the case for a planned unit development ordinance.

Another preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday. The Commission will hear a petition for secondary plat of Phase C Block 21 of the Coffee Creek Center PUD.

In public hearings, a petition by the William and Rita Bennett Trust to rezone 112 South 14th Street from B-3 Business zoning, behind Red Carpet Smoke Shop, to R-3 Multi-family Residential.

Attorney Terry Hiestand said the owner wants to have the zoning changed to reflect the use of the property. A smaller home at the south end of the property is planned to be taken down and a multi-family home is planned in its place.
