The Chesterton Park Board approved use permits Tuesday for popular summer activities in Thomas Park.

Duneland Chamber of Commerce president Maura Durham won permission for the May 3 through Oct. 25 European Market. Participating vendors with booths on park grounds each will pay $5 to the Park Department gift fund.

The Chamber’s Aug. 16 Party in the Park with family-oriented booths and events also was approved.

In addition, OK’d was the Duneland Business Improvement Group’s use of Thomas for the July 12 Bark in the Park and the Aug. 30 Taste of Duneland. Machelle Blount made the requests.

Three other Thomas use permits were approved: for the Chesterton Lions Club Easter egg hunt, Westchester Public Library’s summer outdoor movie series, and LifeFest July 13. In addition, use of Chesterton Park grounds near the baseball diamond through May 18 was allowed for Chesterton girls’ lacrosse practice and games.

Park Board member Mark Dickinson said Rebuilding Together Duneland volunteers will renovate the Chesterton Park activity building and grounds April 26. Gratitude was expressed for Rebuilding Together’s upcoming projects as well as for ones previously undertaken in the parks.

Park superintendent Bruce Mathias briefly commented as he readies for the upcoming seasons. “It’s been a long winter,” he said.
