Alliance Center preliminary look set Thursday for town planners

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton Advisory Plan Commission is scheduled to conduct a preliminary hearing Thursday on the development plan for the proposed Alliance Business Center. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall.

The hearing was slated for the Aug. 15 commission meeting but developers asked for a continuance. The business park would be located on an 81-acre parcel known as Popeís Farm at County Road 950N and Indiana 49.

In June, Terry Larson of Larson-Danielson Construction Co. said a group of investors wants to duplicate the success of Portageís Ameriplex light-industrial park here but with the addition of residential housing.

The Alliance project coincides with completion of Chestertonís installation of municipal utilities along the Indiana 49 corridor to the south. If the commission feels the planned unit developmentís application is in order, a public hearing on the PUD would be set. Final action is up to the Town Council.

Also Thursday, commission members could discuss a months-long study of recommended changes to the town sign ordinance as well as updates to the table of uses for Business-1 and Business-2 zoning districts.

The public may address the commission on other matters as the meeting begins.
