The Porter Cove Homeowners Association made official Tuesday what they’d
already begun.
William and Debbie Lopez, representing the Porter Cove Homeowners
Association, sought and received permission from the Chesterton Park Board to
‘adopt’ a section of the Prairie-Duneland Trail.
Residents of that neighborhood have already cleaned up a section and stained
a fence that faces the trail. They plan to continue their volunteer efforts
and the Park Board gave their permission Tuesday and agreed to post a sign
along that section of trail giving credit where credit is due.
The Prairie-Duneland Trail runs along the south edge of Porter Cove and
passes near that neighborhood’s park. Though the neighborhood and park are in
the town of Porter, the trail itself is maintained and owned by the
Chesterton Park Department.
The Homeowners Association plans further maintenance along the trail as well
as decorative plantings, the Lopez’s told the board.
In other business, Superintendent Bruce Mathias reported that spring mowing
and weed whipping has been carried out in all park units.
Water line work has been completed in the maintenance barn and the water has
been turned on in the Thomas Centennial Park fountain.
Approval of minutes from the previous meeting and approval of claims were
dealt with and there were no other comments from the public.
Information for this report was provided by park department administrator
Beth Marshall.
