Parks bond issue work continues: The third major phase of the Chesterton
Parks and Recreation Department’s $1.5 million bond issue is underway, with
the demolition of the old tennis and basketball courts in Chesterton Park.
Those courts had come to the end of their repavable life. New courts will be
built to the west, behind the ball field home run fence.
Those will cost an
estimated $85,000, plus an estimated $10,000 for the demolition of the old
ones.
Parking improvements along Porter Ave. near the ball field are also
planned at an estimated cost of $40,000 as well as the rehab of the existing
summer program shelter at an estimated cost of $20,000.
