Classic Chesterton-Valpo.

The Valparaiso Vikings won four of the final five matches Wednesday night to pick up a 29-25 Duneland Athletic Conference wrestling victory over Chesterton.

“We should have won,” Chesterton coach Chris Joll said succinctly.

Matt Estill got things started for the Trojans with a 6-0 victory at 120 pounds before the Vikings picked up three consecutive wins for an 11-3 lead.

Chris Katsafaros pinned Riley George at 1:08 of the first period at 145 pounds to turn the tide back to the Trojans.

Sawyer Hallas (18-5) and Tommy St. Germain (3-1) won at 152 and 160 for a 16-11 Chesterton lead.

After a victory for the Vikings, Tyler Gillespie won at 182 after an illegal slam by Darius Gunn. Valpo cut the lead to 22-20 with wins at 195 and 220.

Ryley Harlow got the last Chesterton win with a 10-3 victory over Kyle Rafferty at 285 for a 25-20 lead.

Valpo wins at 106 and 113 set the final score.

The Trojans return to the mat on Saturday when they travel to Crown Point to participate in the Duneland Athletic Conference Wrestling Meet beginning at 9 a.m.
