Trojan Volleyball wins opener

The Chesterton volleyball team opened its season with an easy 25-10, 25-8, 25-7 victory over Hammond Morton on Tuesday night.

Offensively, Ella Whitmore led the Trojans with seven kills, while Taylor Bowser and Ginger Hedrick added six kills each. Kristin Stillman contributed five kills in the victory.

Olivia Smilgius dished out a team-best 10 assists and Whitmore added seven helpers. Maggie Vrahoretis tallied five assists.

Defensively, Stillman had five digs and Bowser added four digs. Sammy Devereaux recorded three digs.

On the service line, Stillman had six aces to lead Chesterton. Vrahoretis, Smilgius, Loran Lombardini, Bowser and Devereaux each had two aces.

The Trojans return to action on Thursday when they host Munster. The junior varsity game is set for a 5 p.m. start.
