Trojan volleyball beats Michigan City

The Chesterton volleyball team swept Michigan City 25-16, 25-23, 25-12 in Duneland Athletic Conference competition on Thursday night.

Offensively, the Trojans were led by Meghan Gaffigan with 12 kills and Emma Ekblaw with nine kills. Katie Nelson and Maggie Vrahoretis added six kills each.

Vrahoretis also dished out a team-best 20 assists, while Grace Newman added 11 helpers.

Defensively, Nelson led the Trojans with 14 digs and Vrahoretis with 11 digs. AJ Devereaux and Gaffigan each had 10 digs each in the victory. Eva Everett added eight digs and Newman had seven.

At the net, Ekblaw had three blocks with Gaffigan, Ella Rodriguez and Vrahoretis had two blocks each.

On the service line, Nelson, Newman and Vrahoretis had two aces each.

CHS returns to the court on Saturday morning when they host the CHS Invitational. Play begins at 9 a.m.
