The Chesterton girls tennis team finished third overall in the Merrillville
Invitational on Saturday behind No. 2-ranked Carmel and Terre Haute North.
The Trojans were led by third place finishes from Elizabeth Shinn at No. 1
singles and Jannon Jeffries at No. 3 singles. Erin DeVaney had to default out
of the competition with an ankle injury.
In doubles, Cristi Williams teamed with Bharathi Muthusamy and Lauren Ingram
to finish fourth overall. At No. 2 doubles, Christine Lambert and Amanda Gore
finished fifth.
Teams in the tournament included Carmel, Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, Lake
Central, Lafayette Central Catholic, Indianapolis Roncalli, Terre Haute
North, Merrillville and the Trojans.
Junior Varsity
The Trojans junior varsity won the Elkhart Memorial Invitational on Saturday
with 34 points edging South Bend St. Joseph’s (31) and South Bend Adams (28).
The doubles teams of Stacey Kammerer-Heather Ribar (No. 1) and Olivia
Gordon-Shelbie Sullivan (No. 2) took home first place honors.
In singles, Cassi Moore was second at No. 1, while Lexi Misch was third at
No. 2 and Tori Comegys was fourth at No. 3.
Teams in the tournament included the Trojans, South Bend St. Joseph’s, South
Bend Adams, Elkhart Memorial (2 teams), Jimtown, South Bend Washington and
Lakeland.
