The Chesterton girls tennis team finished second on Saturday in the
Guerin Catholic took top team honors in a field the included the Trojans,
Homestead, Lake Central, Lafayette Central Catholic, Merrillville,
Northridge and Indianapolis Roncalli.
At No. 1 singles, Meg Modesto took the individual title with a 6-1, 6-1
victory over Northridgeís Kelsey Vessels. Modesto beat players from Guerin
Catholic and Lake Central to reach the finals.
At No. 2 singles, Margaret Shinn fell in the finals to Guerin Catholicís
Ashley Jonathon 7-6, 6-7 and 10-7 in a super tiebreaker. Shinn picked up
wins against Indianapolis Roncalli (6-0, 6-0) and Northridge (6-0, 6-1)
during the day.
At No. 3 singles, JJ Lee won the individual title with a 6-1, 6-2 win over
Guerin Catholicís Kara MacDonald. Lee also had victories against Homestead
(6-2, 6-1) and Northridge (6-0, 6-1).
At No. 1 doubles, Rachel McCrum and Ellen Kerr finished fifth.
At No. 2 doubles, Abby Burke and Natalie Petro finished fourth with Molly
McCoy and Logan Haussman subbing for them in the third and fourth rounds.
