Trojan Softball falls to Crown Point

The Chesterton softball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t hang on as Crown Point rallied for a 4-3 victory on Wednesday night.

“I’m disappointed for the girls that we lost the game, but I’m very proud of their effort,” Chesterton coach LouAnn Hopson said. “Three weeks ago this team beat us 10-0.”

The game began on Tuesday night, but was suspended due to rain in the top of the second with CHS runners on first and second with one out.

When the game restarted on Wednesday, Crown Point pitcher Miranda Elish worked her way out of the jam and the Bulldogs responded with two runs in the third for a lead.

The Trojans finally broke through in the top of the seventh with three runs as Allena McElfresh led off with a single and scored on a Sarah Richards double. Cooley singled and moved to second base.

A two-out single by Jill Bohnert scored Richards and Cooley for a 3-2 lead.

Crown Point put together a one-out single and double and they eventually scored on a sharp single to right field.

“It would have been easy to give up,” Hopson said. “I hope that the girls see this as a glimpse of how they can play every night.”
