Trojan girls soccer team blanks Michigan City in opener

It didnít take long.

The Chesterton girls soccer team scored just 17 seconds into the season and opened it with a 9-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Michigan City on Tuesday night.

Carley Perkins opened the scoring and set the tone for the game with the quick tally. A pair of goals from Courtney Krol and another by Olivia Hansen put the Trojans on top 4-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Chesterton got two more goals from Hansen, a pair of goals from Novi Lopez and a goal by Addy Joiner to set the final score. Perkins, Hansen and Jenna Wadding all tallied assists in the victory.

Michigan City recorded just one shot on goal and Molly McLaughlin made the save in preserving the shutout.

The Trojans return to action on Friday when they head to South Bend for the South Bend St. Joe Indian Invitational.
