Trojan Boys Tennis falls to Crown Point

The Chesterton boys tennis team swept doubles play, but couldn’t get the elusive third team point and dropped a 3-2 Duneland Athletic Conference decision at Crown Point on Thursday.

Winning for the Trojans were Nick Hanson and Corydon Gaff at No. 1 doubles over Chris Newlin and Daniyaal Rasheed 6-3, 6-4.

The other team point came from Drew Engles and James Navarro at No. 2 doubles against Cal Curiel and Nick Rabledo 6-0, 6-0.

Chesterton returns to the court on Saturday when they travel to the Crown Point Invitational.

Singles -- 1. Leyton Noerenberg (CP) def. Chad Whelan 6-1, 6-3; 2. Zach Jones (CP) def. Luke Liapes 6-2, 6-3; 3. Armondo Bracco (CP) def. Troy Feller 6-0, 6-2.

Doubles -- 1. Nick Hanson/Corydon Gaff © def. Chris Newlin/Daniyaal Rasheed 6-3, 6-4; 2. Drew Engels/James Navarro © def. Cal Curiel/Nick Rabledo 6-0, 6-0.

Record: Chesterton 2-3 overall (1-1 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 11, Crown Point 2

The Chesterton junior varsity had little trouble in picking up an 11-2 victory over Crown Point.

In singles, winners were Azeez Lakhani (No.1), John Powell (No.2) and Connor Potesta (No.3) all in straight sets.

In doubles, winning teams included Joe Wadowski/Sawyer Metz (No. 1), Nate Rubino/John Petro (No. 2), Danny Vear/Aiden Li (No. 3), Drake Redman/Jack Ward (No. 4), David Archbald/Payton Disney (No. 6), Rhett Lubeck/Evan Smilguis (No. 7), Dimitri Nicholson/Daniel Anderson (No. 8) and Carter Hoffman/Jason Denny (No. 9).
