The Chesterton boys
soccer team remained undefeated on the year with a 1-1 tie at South Bend St.
Joseph on Saturday.
“We had some
amazing opportunities, but St. Joe did a great job defensively and kept us
out of the goal,” Chesterton coach Lucas Sabedra said. “They had eight
players behind the ball defending us with two target guys out top. We just
had a difficult time finishing.”
St. Joe scored just
three minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead.
“We responded to
the early goal by keeping possession the majority of the game,” Sabedra
said. “It just took us a while to get the equalizer.”
The Trojans goal
came in the 37th minute when Ryan O’Dell found Andy VanNoort.
“Andy pushed up the
left side to find a 1-2 pass with Ryan,” Sabedra said. “Ryan fed Andy into
space outside the 18-yard line and Andy placed a sensational goal past the
keeper. It was the goal of the season thus far.”
