Trojan Baseball goes 2-1 in Lafayette

The Chesterton baseball team finished a game-filled first week with a 2-1 record in the Lafayette Jeff Tournament over the weekend.

Finishing a string of six games in six days, the Trojans beat McCutcheon (6-3) and Anderson (10-8) before falling to the host Bronchos (3-2).

In the opener, Chesterton built a 4-2 lead through three innings as the Trojans took advantage of two McCutcheon errors. Andrew Ralph added a double.

Matt Kubacki got the win on the mound for the Trojans after working five innings and striking out four. Corey Rusboldt got the save after pitching the final two innings and striking out three.

In game two, Chesterton used a seven-run sixth inning to outlast Anderson.

Coel Teal led the offensive attack with three hits, including a pair of doubles, to go along with three RBIís. Kubacki added two hits and two RBIís in the victory.

The Trojans used four pitchers in the game as Brandon Roeske got the start and struck out five in 4.2 innings of work. Michael Jacobucci worked the final inning to get the win.

In the finale, Chesterton scored two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but couldnít stop the Bronchos from the game-winner in the bottom of the frame.

Roeske and Travis Brooks both reached to start the seventh for the Trojans and Kubackiís RBI single scored pinch-runner Jordan Dilosa. Cole Tealís single plated Jeremy Jaeger.

After back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the seventh, Chestertonís fourth error of the game allowed the game-winner to score.

Teal and Ralph each had two hits to lead the Trojan offense.

Burris worked 4.2 innings and struck out three, while allowing just one hit in relief of starter Tyler Quillin.

Junior Varsity

Andrean 4-13, Chesterton 2-3

The Chesterton junior varsity dropped a pair of games to Andrean (4-2, 13-3) on Saturday.

In the opener, the Trojans racked up six hits including a triple by Logan Hofferth. Hofferth also got the start on the mound and worked 3.1 innings and struck out three.

Jack Mullen pitched the final 2.2 innings and struck out three in relief.

In the nightcap, Andrean pounded out 15 hits and cruised to a victory.

Offensively, Mullen had two hits with Michael Mallon and Caleb McEuen tagging doubles. Isaac Shook had a triple in the loss.

Tyler Smithson worked 1.1 innings on the mound before Blake Soffa pitched 2.2 innings of relief work. Soffa struck out one and Patrick Arndt struck out one in .2 innings on the mound.
