Special Olympics swimmer Jerritt Covington is bringing home the gold.

Covington, 19, of Liberty Township, was won both the 200 Free and the 100 Butterfly at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, his coach, Peter DeWitt, told the Chesterton Tribune after deadline on Monday. Covington also placed fifth in the 400 Free.

Covington’s outstanding performance in the World Games follows his four medal run at the Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle, Wash., in July 2018, when he won a gold in the 4x100 Free, silvers in the 200 Free and 100 Breaststroke, and a bronze in the 100 Free.

Covington is one of only four Hoosiers to compete in the World Games at Abu Dhabi and the only swimmer from Indiana.

Covington has not yet returned from the United Arab Emirates, but when he does will talk to the Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club about his experience.
