The Chesterton seniors weren’t about to let one get away.
The LaPorte Slicers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but a six-run second
inning was enough to lift the Trojans to an important 7-5 Duneland Athletic
Conference softball victory on Monday night.
“We made some mistakes defensively, but not in bunches,” Chesterton coach
LouAnn Hopson said. “We also came back with the bats right away.”
LaPorte scored its first run on a sacrifice fly and then scored the final
two when a fly ball to Jeannette Sosnowski in right field was lost in the
sun.
The Trojans started their rally when Megan Tymorek reached on a one-out
error. Sammie Howard walked and courtesy runner Sarah Richards scored on a
Jaren Lynch single.
Howard moved to third and Lynch stole second before Howards scored on a
single by Heather Overla. After a Sydney Cooley walk, Taylor hit the first
pitch for a grand slam home run.
The Chesterton lead grew to 7-3 when Tymorek got a two-out single. Richards,
courtesy running, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Howard’s
single plated Richards.
LaPorte manufactured a run in the sixth inning and got a two-out solo home
run by Jessica Craft to set the final score.
Offensively, Overla and Cooley had two hits each for Chesterton, while
Harlow finished with four RBI’s. Megan Tymorek got the win after striking
out five in relief of Harlow.
