Once the first goal went in, the onslaught was on.

The No. 3 ranked Chesterton boys soccer team advanced to the championship game of the IHSAA Valparaiso Sectional with a 4-0 win over No. 7 Crown Point on Wednesday.

“It was a grind at first,” Chesterton head coach Lucas Sabedra said. “We managed to get over the hump after our first goal. That made Crown Point push forward which opened up the field for us.”

The Trojans took advantage of the space with two first half goals and two more in the second half en route to the victory.

Goal scorers for CHS were Robbie Capehart, Seth Conway, Zack Bowser and Soren Vagenius.

“Seth Conway broke the school scoring record with his 28th goal of the season,” Sabedra said. “Zack added his 25th and Soren has scored in the last two games too.”

Assists came from Capehart, Bowser and Nick Biel.

“Robbie Capehart has been showing up this post-season as well,” Sabedra said. “He had another goal and an assist.”

Charlie Eaton made four saves in goal to record the shutout.

“Charlie had to make a couple of nice saves for us tonight,” Sabedra said. “Jordan Carlson was the man of the match tonight for us though. He did an amazing job shutting down their main target.”

The Trojans will face off against Merrillville, a 1-0 victory over Valparaiso, in Saturday’s championship game. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
