On Saturday, June 8, three Chesterton athletes competed in Major League
Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run competition at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
Garrett Benko, Jenna McBride and Madeline Hamady represented Northwest
Indiana in the competition.
Hamady won first place in the 13-14 year old girls division. Benko finished
third in the 7-8 year old boys age division, while McBride was second in the
11-12 year old girls division.
This level of competition called the “Team Championship” is the last level

Additionally, each athlete was selected by being in the top three scores of
all sectional all-around champions that make up the geographic market for
the Chicago White SOX.
The Team Champions were announced on field in a pre-game ceremony before
Saturday’s game and White Sox Pitcher, John Danks, congratulated each one.
This year there were more than 4,000 local competitions with over 600,000
participants. Each MLB team hosts this event and the competition is down to
