Late goal lifts Trojans past Valpo in double OT

Every shot not taken, doesn’t go in.

The saying may sound obvious, but Courtney Krol took it to heart late in the second overtime of Tuesday night’s game.

Krol connected from more than 40 yards out over the top of the Viking defense and goalkeeper to lift the Trojans to a 2-1 double overtime Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Valparaiso.

“As soon as (Courtney) kicked it, we’re sitting on the bench going ‘that could go in’,” Chesterton coach Jason Conway said. “And it did.”

A scoreless first half went by before Chesterton’s Addy Joiner scored in the game’s 54th minute after battling through a pair of defenders in the penalty box.

The game stayed that way until the 75th minute when Valpo’s Janci Courtaney tied the game at 1-1.

The Trojans return to the field on Saturday when they travel to the Pendleton Heights Tournament.
