Kelly Grassel completes collegiate golf career; pro golf is next

Chesterton High grad Kelly Grassel recently completed her collegiate golf career at the University of Florida in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Gators fell to eventual National Champion Arizona State.

Grassel earned All-American, Academic All-American, All-SEC, All-SEC Academics and the Academic Service Award, while also winning two collegiate tournaments including the NCAA Regional Championship at Ohio State on May 10.

Grassel set the SEC Conference Tournament record with a 65 and also won the major amateur event, The Sally, in January. Prior winners included Patty Berg, Babe Didrickson Zaharias and Lexi Thompson.

Grassel will move on to professional golf and has a sponsors exemption to play in the LPGA Symetra Tour Four Winds Casino event at Blackthorn in South Bend on June 9.
