Flygirls win 18u Indiana State Title

The Duneland Flygirls 17u softball team won the Indiana NSA 18u A State Championship competing with teams from all over the state.

The Flygirls went 6-0 in tournament play and outscored their opponents 57-8, while hitting a record 10 home runs.

Leading the team in home runs were Megan Matheny (2), Sydney Cooley (2), Megan Krantz (2), Mallory McKee, Lauren Gorczynski, Sarah Richards and Karessa Sweeney each with one.

Cooley, Krantz and Zarate shut down their opponents pitching four shutouts and Matheny and Tucker did a great job behind the plate gunning down all seven opponents that attempted to steal.

Defensively, Lisette Martinez, Sweeney and Gorczynski patrolled the outfield making multiple great catches. The infield was stellar with Amanda Dujmovich, Richards, Cooley, Krantz and McKee making quite a few great plays throughout the weekend.

Martinez, Sweeney and Richards burned up the base-paths with 10 stolen bases for the weekend.
