The Duneland Flyers 13U softball team ended its 2009 season with a third
place finish in the 43-team USSSA World Series in Des Moines, Iowa.
With teams from 12 states including Arkansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois,
Nebraska, Missouri and Michigan competing, the Fly Girls finished 9-3
overall in the five day event.
The Fly Girls finished the season 66-23 overall.
Three members of the team earned USSSA All-World selection including Sydney
Cooley, Mallory McKee and Megan Matheny. Cooley set a tournament record with
five fence-clearing home runs on her way to Offensive MVP honors. She also
pitched in nine games.
McKee was named Defensive MVP of the tournament, while Matheny was named the
MVP catcher.
