CHS volleyball team wins sectional opener

The Chesterton volleyball team picked up a 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 victory over Portage in the opening round of the IHSAA Crown Point Sectional on Thursday night.

The Trojans will face off against Valparaiso on Saturday in the second semifinal at 12:30 p.m. LaPorte and Crown Point will meet in the other semifinal at 11 a.m.

Offensively, Sammi Ostrom led the Trojans with seven kills, while Brittany Milzarek added six kills. Emily Marcus and Jessica Urycki each tallied five kills with Aubrey Nagdeman and Ali Ostrom adding four kills each.

Shelby Snyder dished out a team-best 14 assists and Kennedy Baltus added 10. On the service line, Nagdeman and Marcus each had three aces.

Defensively, Jordyn Moleski had nine digs with Marcus adding eight. Snyder and Sara Tarnowski each had five digs.

At the net, Ali Ostrom and Marcus had two block kills each with Tarnowski and Sammi Ostrom also garnering one.
