The Chesterton girls tennis team improved to 2-2 on the season with a 5-0
victory at Kankakee Valley on Monday night.
The Trojans cruised to easy early victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. At
No. 2, Margaret Shinn blanked Amanda DeRolf 6-0, 6-0. J.J. Lee swept Hayley
Hoffman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
“Margaret and J.J. blanking their opponent in singles was nice,” Chesterton
coach Gretchen Shinn said.
Chesterton also picked up relatively easy victories in doubles as the No. 1
team of Sunny Lee and Rachel McCrum beat Kayla Fieldhouse and Abbie Wilder
6-2, 6-3.
Amanda Susnak and Brittny Stephan beat Jen Anderson and Kaylyn Banaszak 6-2,
6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
“We got solid performances out of our No. 1 and 2 doubles today,” Shinn
said. “That was awesome to see.”
The only match in doubt came at No. 1 singles where Kankakee Valley’s Abby
Hamstra won the opening set 6-1 over Chesterton’s Bobbi Modesto. Modesto
battled back to complete the sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the final two
sets.

The Chesterton junior varsity won all four singles matches and both doubles
matches to gain a 6-0 victory at Kankakee Valley on Monday.
Singles winners for the Trojans included Caroline Puntillo, Taryn Trusty,
Megan Homme and Lauren Bailey. In doubles, the duos of Katie Sikora-Rana
Torabi and Molly McCoy-Maria Burelli also won.
