The Chesterton softball team picked up its eighth consecutive victory on
Friday afternoon as they pounded out 16 hits and beat Hebron 10-2.
“Several of our kids did a great job,” Chesterton coach LouAnn Hopson said.
“This was a nice win for us.”
The Trojans put pressure on the Hawks right from the beginning. Alexis Paz
singled to lead off the game and promptly stole second and third base. On her
slide into third, the throw sailed into left field allowing Paz to score.
Paz got things going again in the third inning when she tripled and scored on
a single by Sam Gross. Gross later scored on a single by catcher Sam Bozak,
who crossed the plate on a passed ball for a 4-0 lead.
“Alexis did a nice job hitting and on the mound,” Hopson said.
The Trojans scored again in the fourth when Heather Overla led off with a
single and advanced to second base on a fielder’s choice. When she stole
third, the ball again sailed into left field allowing her to score.
Hebron finally got on the scoreboard against Paz in the fourth with three
straight singles with two outs. Paz struck out seven in picking up the
victory and allowed seven hits.
Kelci Garcia singled to start a sixth inning rally and went to second on a
fielder’s choice. Paz singled her home and scored herself on a double by
Gross.
In the seventh inning, Chesterton put the final touches on the victory when
Taylor Harlow singled and scored on Garcia’s two-run home run.
Paz led the Trojan offense with four hits, while Gross and Garcia each had a
pair of RBI’s.
Chesterton returns to the field today as they host Valparaiso beginning at
4:30 p.m.
