CHS Softball snaps losing skid

The Chesterton softball team snapped its two-game losing streak with an impressive 17-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Merrillville on Tuesday.

“We had 13 hits,” Chesterton coach LouAnn Hopson said. “Our big hits scored runs every time tonight.”

The Trojans jumped on the Pirates right away with eight runs in the bottom of the first as Chesterton sent 13 batters to the plate.

Mallory McKee started the game with a leadoff home run and Megan Tymorek added a two-run single. Sydney Cooley plated a run with a double, while McKee and Carter added RBI’s with bases loaded walks.

The Trojans did it again in the third inning with another 13-hitter parade to the plate.

Shelby Carter and Cooley singled and scored on Amanda Dujmovich’s home run. Alexis King added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

The final touches on the scoreboard came in the fourth on a two-run Jill Bohnert home run.

Cooley picked up the victory in the circle with five innings of work and five strikeouts.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 8, Merrillville 0

The Chesterton junior varsity racked up another victory with an 8-0 shutout of Merrillville on Tuesday.

Danielle Lange struck out 13 for the Trojans in the victory, while also adding a double, single and two RBI’s offensively.

Shelby Price had two infield singles with Megan Kerkes adding a single and double.
