The Chesterton softball team pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of four
Hanover Central errors in picking up a 7-5 victory over the Wildcats on
Tuesday night.
“Obviously with 15 hits, we did a good job with the bats,” Chesterton coach
LouAnn Hopson said. “We kept hoping we could blow the game open. We ended
six innings with the bases loaded.”
The Trojans got things stated right away in the first with a Jaren Lynch
leadoff double. Heather Overla followed with an RBI single and Taylor Harlow
plated her with a double.
After a Hanover home run in the bottom of the first, Chesterton answered
with an RBI single from Sydney Cooley that scored Sammie Howard.
“The pitching was much slower than we have faced in a while,” Hopson said.
“I thought the girls did a nice job of waiting.”
Megan Tymorek doubled to lead off the third inning and Jeannette Sosnowski
earned a one-out walk. Courtesy runner Micheala Sosby scored when Sarah
Richardson reached on an error and Sosnowski scored on a Lynch single.
Another Hanover home run was answered in the fifth when Lynch reached on an
error and Overla executed a sacrifice bunt. Cooley single and Harlow walked
to load the bases. Tymorek’s double scored Lynch and Cooley.
Offensively, Lynch and Tymorek each had three hits, while Cooley, Sosnowski
and Overla had two hits each.
“We just didn’t get a lot of the extra base hits when the bases were loaded
that could’ve put the game away,” Hopson said. “Everyone hit the ball well
tonight though.”
Tymorek worked the first three innings and struck out four before giving way
to Cooley who struck out six in four innings.
“Megan looked great,” Hopson said. “I wanted her to work a few innings and
get out. She worked (Monday) and we start the tournament next week.”
