In their last tough Duneland Athletic Conference challenge of the season, the Chesterton girls swim team had little trouble in beating Lake Central 127-59 on Tuesday.

“I was pretty pleased with how we swam up against a really good opponent,” Chesterton coach Kevin Kinel said. “I think all the meets we went to early got us battle-tested against quality teams and I think we’re tuning up for the post-season.”

Double individual winners for the Trojans included Julia Campbell in the 200 Free (1:55.19) and 500 Free (5:08.50), Kate Curley in the 200 IM (2:09.38) and 100 Back (1:00.45) and Vanessa Krause in the 50 Free (24.44) and 100 Fly (56.16).

Kelly Craig was the other event winner for CHS in the 100 Breast (1:09.89).

“Kelly Craig went crazy tonight and Mae Bass had a terrific meet,” Kinel said. “Our big guns did what they needed to do and Cheyanne Comer had a career-best 186 points.”

The Trojans also won all three relays with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay as the group of Stephanie Krause, Curley, Vanessa Krause and Madisyn Coudridt won in 1:52.07.

In the 200 Free Relay, the quartet of Brittany Borzych, Coudriet, Craig and Campbell won in 1:41.33, while the group of Vanessa Krause, Campbell, Curley and Craig were victorious in 3:38.43.

“It seems like things are coming around for us and we’re finally starting to get healthy,” Kinel said.
