CHS Girls Soccer wins Sectional Semifinal 7-2

The Chesterton girls soccer team wasted little time putting their stamp on a 7-2 IHSAA Sectional semifinal victory over Portage Thursday night at Hobart.

“We got off to a great start,” Chesterton coach Ben Forgey said. “We scored 23 seconds into the match and it’s hard to start much better than that. We got our second goal five minutes later.

“It really made things more comfortable on the night, but I’m happy that we still played smart and had to work for everything we got tonight.”

Goal scorers for the Trojans included Grace Bamber, Addy Joiner (2), Gina Geenen, Ashlee Bakaitis (2) and Lauren Sensibaugh.

“Everyone played well tonight, but Ashlee Bakaitis was hungry,” Forgey said. “She played a part in five of our seven goals and decided early on that she wasn’t going to be stopped.”

Assists came from Bamber (2) and Bakaitis (3).

“It’s really nice because we seem to be clicking at the right time,” Forgey said. “It sets up the Sectional Final we’ve been expecting -- Valpo. All season I’ve said we were the best two teams in the Region.

“Saturday we’ll see who plays better on that night.”

The Trojans and Vikings will matchup Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Hobart High School.
