Putting a ribbon on another fabulous season, the Chesterton girls swim team finished its regular season with a 112.5-73.5 victory over Munster on Thursday.

“We knew the girls meet would be reasonably close and it was,” Chesterton coach Kevin Kinel said. “Munster is always very good. We love this meet. A lot of these kids have grown up swimming against each other.

“From where we came from, I think the girls have made huge strides this year.”

Double individual event winners for the Trojans included Julia Campbell in the 200 Free (1:53.35) and the 500 Free (5:02.58) and Vanessa Krause in the 50 Free (24.27) and the 100 Fly (56.33).

“Julia had two season best times that were close to what she did last year at the State Meet,” Kinel said. “She was incredible and Vanessa did her thing.”

Other event winners were Cheyanne Comer in Diving (179.75) and Kate Curley in the 100 Back (1:00.14).

“Kate had a best time in the IM by a full second,” Kinel said. “She’s right on schedule in the Backstroke. Our 200 Free line with Julia at 1:53 and Kelly (Craig) going 1:56. Then we had two other people go 1:59 and that’s pretty impressive.”

Chesterton also won the 400 Free Relay with the group of Krause, Campbell, Curley and Craig in 3:36.61.

The Trojans return to the pool on Thursday when they host the opening night of the IHSAA Sectional. Prelims start at 5:30 p.m.

“With the girls, we have some decisions to make going into the State Meet,” Kinel said. “We have to find a way to get our quality kids to bump up and get our Relays figured out if we want to score big points at the State Finals.”
