CHS Boys Tennis beat Valpo

The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 3-0 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 3-2 victory over Valparaiso on Thursday.

The Trojans swept singles play beginning with a 6-2, 6-3 victory for Fabio Haiduc over Will Behrend at No. 1. Drake Redman cruised at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Calbin McMurtrey.

Troy Feller got the final team point with his 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Jake Nightengale at No. 3.

“Coach (Matt) Adams and I are so proud of Troy's effort tonight,” CHS head coach Tom Bour said. "If you need a match to come down to the wire, having a a senior captain on the court is the best situation a coach can have. I thought Troy did a great job of being the aggressor and he played the big points real well down the stretch."

The Trojans return to the court on Saturday morning when they travel to the Terre Haute South Invitational.

Chesterton 3, Valparaiso 2


Singles -- 1. Fabio Haiduc (C) def. Will Behrend 6-2, 6-3; 2. Drake Redman (C) def. Calvin McMurtrey 6-3, 6-1; 3. Troy Feller (C) def. Jake Nightengale 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Doubles -- 1. Matt Levenda/Dylan Surkein (V) def. John Powell/Brock Redman 7-5, 6-3; 2. Ian Krutz/Erik Kallen (V) def. John Petro/David Archbald 6-3, 6-4.

Record: Chesterton 4-0 (3-0 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Valparaiso 7, Chesterton 2

The Chesterton junior varsity dropped a 7-2 decision on Thursday to Valparaiso.

Winner for the Trojans were the No. 2 doubles team of Alex Henderson and Grant Flesher and the No. 4 doubles team of Adam Royster and Max Haughtington.
