Chesterton boys swim coach Kevin Kinel said his team was ready to race after a long preseason and the Lafayette Jeff Bronchos will attest to that.

The Trojans started defense of their 2008 State Championship with an impressive 144-42 victory in Lafayette on Saturday.

The Chesterton quartet of Kyle Whitaker, Matt Rosiecki, Bill Bass and Tyler Fozkos announced their presence emphatically with a victory to start the day in the 200 Medley Relay (1:38.33).

The group each picked up two individual victories on the day. Whitaker took top honors in the 100 Fly (50.39) and the 100 Back (51.62), while Bass won the 200 Free (1:45.52) and the 500 Free (4:46.59).

Rosiecki found himself out in front in the 200 IM (2:06.56) and the 100 Breast (1:02.85) with Fozkos flying through the water in the 50 Free (21.69) and the 100 Free (48.55).

Chesterton also won the 200 Free Relay with Fozkos, Ethan Hall, Taylor Zakhar and Rosiecki winning (1:31.23) and the 400 Free Relay with Whitaker, Bass, Hall and Zakhar (3:22.14).

The other individual winner for the Trojans was Alex Olson (1-Meter Diving, 198.05).
