The Chesterton boys swim team continued its blistering start to the season with a 141-45 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Crown Point on Tuesday.

“We wanted to put a pretty strong lineup out there tonight even though we probably didn’t have to,” Chesterton coach Kevin Kinel said. “We don’t have that many home meets, so we wanted to see what we could do. We responded really well racing ourselves for the most part.”

Double individual winners for the Trojans included Blake Pieroni in the 200 Free (1:40.30) and the 100 Free (45.62) and Jack Wallar in the 200 IM (2:00.66) and the 100 Breaststroke (59.00).

“Blake did his thing with a couple of good times,” Kinel said. “Jack Wallar had another time drop in the breaststroke.”

Aaron Whitaker was a double winner including a pool record in the 100 Butterfly (49.00) and the 100 Backstroke (50.96), while Ethan Whitaker won twice with victories in the 50 Free (22.08) and the 500 Free (4:38.90).

“Aaron breaking his brother’s (Kyle) pool record in the 100 Fly was nice,” Kinel said. “The year Kyle set that record he went on to set the State Record that still stands. That’s nice company to be in.”

The Trojans also won the 200 Medley Relay with the group of Andy Hurst, Waller, Aaron Whitaker and Ethan Whitaker in 1:36.91.

They also won the 200 Free Relay with the quartet of Pieroni, Wallar, Jack Kurfman and Ethan Whitaker (1:28.44) and the 400 Free Relay with the group of Aaron Whitaker, Kurfman, Patrick Curley and Pieroni (3:14.96).

“I think part of our success is that these guys are maturing,” Kinel said. “Our training is better and I do think they are just physically stronger. But, I also think they realize what they could do and that’s been a driving force for them.”

CHS also got solid swims from Andy Hurst and Nathan Rodriguez among others.

“Andy Hurst in the 100 Back was tremendous,” Kinel said. “Nathan Rodriguez had two best times in the IM and breaststroke.”
