The Chesterton boys
tennis team finished second overall in the eight-team CHS Invitational on
Zionsville took top
honors with 50 points, followed by the Trojans (39), Alexandria (30) and
Valparaiso (26) in the top four.
“Today was a great
team effort and we definitely showcased our depth,” Chesterton coach Tom
Bour said. “More importantly, we are playing every match with tons of energy
and confidence and it’s becoming contagious.”
Chesterton’s Matt Jewison won the No. 1 flight with a perfect 3-0 record.
Jewison picked up wins over Logansport, Crown Point and South Bend Adams.
At No. 2, Chad
Whelan finished 2-1 with victories over Angola and Alexandria, while Corydon
Gaff was 2-1 at No. 3 with wins over Crown Point and Logansport.
In doubles, Blake
Ellenwood and Luke Liapes were 2-1 at No. 1 doubles with victories over
South Bend Adams and Valparaiso.
At No. 2, Paul
Petro and Nick Hanson went 2-0 with wins over Alexandria and South Bend
Adams, while Drew Engels teamed with Hanson but fell to Zionsville in the
