CHS Baseball beats Crown Point in 10 innings

With Sectional approaching in a week, itís time to get things ironed out.

The Chesterton baseball team put together a solid game and picked up a key 3-2 Duneland Athletic Conference victory in 10 innings against Crown Point on Tuesday.

The Trojans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Andrew Ralph led off with a single. After Ralph stole second, he moved to third on a ground out by Corey Rusboldt. Ralph scored on a ground out by Tyler Sufana.

Chesterton starter Brandon Roeske cruised into the fourth inning when the Bulldogs plated a pair of runs for a 2-1 lead.

The score stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh when Jeremy Jaeger started things with a leadoff walk. After stealing second, Jaeger moved to third on Matt Kubackiís sacrifice bunt.

Michael Griffinís ground out to short scored Jaeger to tie the game.

In relief of Roeske, Cole Teal retired all 12 batters he faced and set things up for the bottom of the 10th.

A two-out single by Ralph brought up Rusboldt who laced a double to left field that brought Ralph all the way home from first with the game-winner.

Ralph led the offense with three hits and Cameron OíBrien added two. Teal picked up the victory on the mound.

Junior Varsity

Crown Point 10, Chesterton 3

The Chesterton junior varsity racked up eight hits, but couldnít overcome four errors in dropping a 10-3 decision to Crown Point.

Ben Thornton led the offense with three hits, while Patrick Arndt and Lucas Rochowiak each tallied two hits.

Jack Mullen and Isaac Shook each struck out four in handling pitching duties.
