The Chesterton softball team brought out its bats Tuesday night to the tune
of 12 hits and 13 runs in a 13-2 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over
“The home runs are great and exciting, but it sure is great to see us
scoring on line drives and sac flies of late,” Chesterton coach LouAnn
Hopson said. “Everyone seems relaxed and confidant at the plate.”
The Trojans (20-3, 11-2) scored in every inning as Mallory McKee got things
started in the first with a double. Shelby Carter followed with a single and
both scored on Megan Matheny’s double.
Sydney Cooley reached on an error just before both runners scored on Amanda
In the second, Carter reached on a fielder’s choice and Matheny racked up
her second double of the night. Both scored on Cooley’s RBI single.
McKee and Carter again started the third by reaching base and scored on
The bottom of the order got involved in the fourth as Sarah Richards walked
and stole second. Bailey Slivka singled and also stole second. Richards
scored on McKee’s single and Slivka scored on Carter’s ground out.
McKee scored on Matheny’s single to set the final score.
Offensively, McKee, Matheny and Dujmovich each had three hits. Cooley drove
in four runs and Matheny had three RBI’s.
Megan Tymorek worked all five innings for the win, scattering five hits and
striking out four.

Natalie Anderson pitched a complete game for the Chesterton junior varsity
softball team with nine strikeouts as the Trojans beat Michigan City 10-0 on
Anderson also had a double with two RBI’s, while Abby Brown had three
singles and scored twice.ĘBritta Johnson had two singles and scored once.
