The Chesterton girls 4x800 Relay team stood on the podium with big smiles on Saturday at the IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals in Bloomington.

The Trojans participated in four events at Indiana University and finished in a tie for 47th overall with four points.

“Solid day overall for us,” Chesterton coach Steve Kearney said.

In the 4x8, the quartet of Kassidy Scott, Rosie Biehl, Tori Schroeder and Kristen Homme finished in 9:25.24, good for sixth overall.

“I told them if they ran 9:28 they had a chance, so 9:25 was great,” Kearney said. “Kassidy at the 200 was in 11th and finished in the middle of the field with a great finish. Rosie ran in a crowd all the way and finished in second then Tori cut West Lafayette’s lead from seven seconds to one.

“Kristin ran so intelligently. She got on (West Lafayette’s Bobbi Burgess) hip and hounded her until it was time to take off. She knew she was running against the clock and finished great.”

The Trojans also competed in the 4x400 Relay with the group of Tia Peters, Homme, Jordyn Kincy and Anna Raffin finishing 20th in 4:06.00.

Individually, Raffin was 18th in the open 400 (1:00.60) and Homme was 13th in the 1,600 (5:09.51).
