The Chesterton boys
tennis team won its Duneland Athletic Conference opener with a 4-1 victory
over Lake Central on Tuesday night.
“It's always nice
to start conference play out with a win and against a tough opponent too,”
Chesterton coach Tom Bour said. “I saw some great things from our guys and
saw some things we have to address tomorrow at practice as well."
Singles winner for
the Trojans included Luke Liapes with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over David Spriggs
at No. 2 and Troy Feller with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Nick Holden.
In doubles, Nick
Hanson and Corydon Gaff had little trouble in a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Max
Galocy and Luis Martinez at No. 1.
Drew Engels and
James Navarro set the final score with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 against Amaar
Mohammed and Griffin Schwartzmantruber.
The Trojans return
to the court on Thursday when they travel to Crown Point. The match is set
for a 4:15 p.m. start.
