Chesterton Boys Tennis wins DAC opener

The Chesterton boys tennis team won its Duneland Athletic Conference opener with a 4-1 victory over Lake Central on Tuesday night.

It's always nice to start conference play out with a win and against a tough opponent too, Chesterton coach Tom Bour said. I saw some great things from our guys and saw some things we have to address tomorrow at practice as well."

Singles winner for the Trojans included Luke Liapes with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over David Spriggs at No. 2 and Troy Feller with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Nick Holden.

In doubles, Nick Hanson and Corydon Gaff had little trouble in a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Max Galocy and Luis Martinez at No. 1.

Drew Engels and James Navarro set the final score with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 against Amaar Mohammed and Griffin Schwartzmantruber.

The Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they travel to Crown Point. The match is set for a 4:15 p.m. start.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 12, Lake Central 2

The Chesterton junior varsity beat Lake Central 12-2 on Tuesday.

Singles winners for the Trojans included Azeez Lakhani, Danny Vear, Aiden Li and Connor Potesta.

In doubles, victories came from John Powell/Joe Wadowski (No. 1), Sawyer Metz/Nate Rubino (No. 2), John Petro/Drake Redman (No. 3), Jack Ward/Eli Hoffman (No. 4), David Archbald/Brandon Wong (No. 5), Payton Disney/Rhett Lubeck (No. 6), Dimitri Nicholson/Daniel Anderson (No. 7) and Jason Denny/Evan Smilgius (No. 8).
