The Chesterton boys soccer team finished the regular season in style Wednesday night with a 5-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over LaPorte.

“The first 10 minutes, we came out and possessed the ball well,” Chesterton coach Jamie Sensibaugh said. “We moved up the field well and took good shots on goal.”

The Trojans pushed two goals in during that span and added three more after halftime.

“On senior night, with it being so emotional, you never know how the kids will come out,” Sensibaugh said. “I think getting those two early goals calmed everyone down.”

John Ward scored twice for the Trojans in victory, while Trent Weller, Trevor Turner and Jared O’Dell each tallied a goal. Ward, Michael James and Drew Kamaski all had assists.

Caleb Gmyrek recorded his ninth shutout of the year and recorded one save in the win.

“I’m pleased with the season and how we ended the year,” Sensibaugh said. “With the adversity we’ve had this season, 13-2-1 is something to be proud of. Now the post-season is upon us and it’s time to get ready for Hobart in the Sectional on Wednesday.”
