Chesterton Baseball beats LaPorte

Back To Front Page

Austin Peterson did his thing again.

The Chesterton righthander struck out seven and allowed just four hits in leading the Trojans to a 3-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory at LaPorte on Tuesday.

Neither team cracked the scoreboard through the first four innings before CHS put a dent in it in the fifth. Owen Hallas singled with two outs and scored all the way from first when Andy Samuelson’s pickoff attempt went awry.

Another run in the sixth came as Anthony Kurek and Peterson singled to start the frame. Brandon Roeske’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. After a strikeout, pinch-runner Patrick Sosby scored on a passed ball.

The final tally of the night came in the seventh when Hallas tripled to left field and scored as the ball was misplayed.

LaPorte never threatened Peterson offensively as the Slicers never got a runner past second base until the seventh inning.

The teams meet again today at Chesterton with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
