The 10th place finish may not look that impressive from the outside looking in, but Chesterton boys track coach John Snyder knows his team is getting better.

Merrillville took top honors as they edged Lawrence North 94 1¦2-92 1¦2, while Lafayette Jeff (71), Valparaiso (56) and McCutcheon (54) rounded out the top five.

“Overall I was pretty happy,” Snyder said. “When you’re in the position we are in right now, you look at the sheet and we jumped up in our seedings in about everything we did.”

Chesterton’s top individual performance came from David Osborn with a second place finish in the 3,200.

“David Osborn coming through and running a 4:31 mile and following that with a 9:46 two mile is a PR,” Snyder said. “You have to be happy with that.”

Trojan Mark VanDenburgh also turned in a PR performance in the Discus with a throw of 140 feet, 8 inches, while Joe Raffin and the shuttle hurdle group did well also.

“I was happy with Mark’s PR in the discus,” Snyder said. “Our shuttle hurdle relay did a nice job with a bunch of young kids in it. Joe Raffin opened our 4x400 with a 54.2 and I thought he ran a good leg in the 4x200 too.”
