The Chesterton boys basketball team turned in a dominating defensive
performance in picking up a 56-25 non-conference victory at Hobart on
Tuesday night.
“I thought our defense, especially the first three quarters, was really
solid,” Chesterton coach Tom Peller said. “We really got out after them and
took them out of what they wanted to do.”
The Trojans held the Brickies to just 12-of-36 shooting (33 percent) and
0-of-6 from 3-point range en route to the win.
Trailing 6-4 early, a 3-pointer by Jacob Andert and basket by Corey Rusboldt
handed the Trojans their first lead and they never relinquished it.
Chris Palombizio and Jacob Wasielewski scored back-to-back baskets to end
the quarter for a 13-8 lead.
With a 19-12 lead, CHS held Hobart without a point for the final 5:47 of the
first half and ended the half on a 15-0 run that included eight points from
Palombizio and five from Matt Holba.
“Another good balanced scoring tonight,” Peller said. “We shared the ball,
took good shots and got the ball inside.”
The lead ballooned to 38-12 with four quick points from Brandon Roeske to
start the third quarter. Another 10-2 run to end the game set the final
score.
“I thought for some of our bench guys we got them extended playing time and
a chance to get some confidence,” Peller said.
Palombizio and Rusboldt led the Trojans with 10 points, while Roeske and
Donnie Johnson each scored nine points. Wasielewski tallied eight points in
the win.
Holba and Andert rounded out the scoring with five points as Chesterton hit
on 21-of-41 shots (51 percent) from the field on the night.
