The Chesterton boys tennis team picked up a solid 3-2 victory over Wheeler
Tuesday night.
Kyle Grassel was the first Trojan off the court with a decisive 6-0, 6-1
victory over Jared Havens at No. 3 singles.
The other Chesterton singles victory came at No. 2 when Tyler Talsma
outlasted Kevin Sison 6-4, 6-3.
“Tyler came back from down 4-1 in the first set to win five straight games,”
Chesterton coach Mike Stiles said. “Once he went on top in the second set, he
stayed there.”
The match was tied at 2-all with just play at No. 2 doubles to finish.
Chesterton’s Ben Andrews and Manhar Grewal won the first set with relative
ease 6-2, but dropped the second set 7-5 even though they had three match
points.
“Ben and Manhar came up with the clinching point,” Stiles said. “Wheeler
overcame three match points to win the second set and it would have been easy
for Ben and Manhar to get down.
“They didn’t and held up to win the third set 6-2.”
