Former Chesterton High School coach Gerald Wenzel was inducted into the
Indiana High School Wrestling Hall of Fame during the IHSAA State Finals in
February.
Wenzel, who passed away in 2007, was the 1947 165 pound Indiana State
champion while attending East Chicago Washington High School. He went on to
teach at Westchester Middle School until 1984 and was also a football and
wrestling coach at CHS.
Wenzel was survived by his wife Mary Ann, a former nurse at CHS, and their
four children Pete, Meg, Karen and Jean.
Other CHS inductees have included Ed Deuberry (contributor), Tom Lambert
(referee) and Keith Davison (wrestler).
