The covered bridge on the Calumet Bicycle Trail -- the only covered bridge in all of Porter County -- will be relocated. North Porter County Commissioner John Evans said once the weather allows, the bridge will be moved from the trail site to the Dorothy Buell Memorial Visitor Center, which is jointly operated by the Porter County Convention, Recreation and Visitor Commission and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. It will be placed in the area of the center’s stormwater and drainage control system. The bridge has frequently been the target of vandalism at its location on the trail in the town of Pines. Evans said the vandalism should stop once the bridge is placed at the Visitor Center.
