Reserve Grand Champion goes to auction:

Susan Swarner, of Jackson Township, shows her Reserve Grand Champion Dairy whether goat in the auction ring at the Porter County Fair 4-H Celebration Sale Thursday. She also auctioned off two turkeys, meat geese and a lamb.

Pen of Two:

R.V. Sutton won the bid Thursday at $2.00 a pound for the Champion Pen of Two in the swine auction. Tom Turkey:

Susan Swarner’s Reserve Grand Champion Tom Turkey went to top bidder Westchester Animal Clinic. The turkey was sold as part of the 2001 Celebration Sale of 4-H livestock at the Porter County Fair. What do I hear?

Joel Balon sold his 1,255 pound Simmental Steer for $1.30 a pound at Thursday’s 4-H Celebration Sale. Top bidder was R.V. Sutton, of Liberty Township. Balon, 16, of Jackson Township, also auctioned off a 1,235 pound market heifer in the sale.

Going, going, gone:

Christopher Krause, 10, a Jackson Volunteer, gives his 1,180 pound Hereford Steer a look during the 4-H Celebration Sale, Thursday night at the Porter County Fair. Krause also exhibited in the Lamb Carcass category, where his lamb carcass won Reserve Grand Champion. Krause is a 5th grader at Liberty Intermediate School.

At the auction:

With smiles for the bidders, Katrina Lutze shows off her market lamb at the 4-H Celebration Sale Thursday at the Porter County Fair. Lutze, 12, of Jackson Township, competed with a total of four sheep in the sheep breeding and market lamb projects.

Market whether:

Ryan Wilson, 17, sold his Nubian goat at auction at Thursday’s 4-H Celebration Sale. Wilson, a Washington Township resident, is a member of the Jackson Volunteers and a senior at Washington Township High School.

Greeting citizens:

Republicans and Democrats alike were busy at the Porter County Fair, greeting potential voters and trying to get their message out. Pictured here is Chesterton resident, Bill Carmichael (R-At Large) who is president of the Porter County Council, along with Dale Brewer, Porter County Clerk and Judge Mary Harper, Circuit Court Judge, handing out balloons at the Republican booth.
