At a brief special meeting Monday, the Porter County Council and Porter
County Commissioners unanimously reappointed Gus Olympidis as their
representative to the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority.
Olympidis, president and chief executive officer of Family Express, recently
submitted a letter saying that he would not seek reappointment to the RDA.
But according to county officials, Olympidis reconsidered after he was urged
to stay on.
Porter County government gets one appointment, jointly selected by the
council and commissioners, to the RDA. The governor makes another appointment
representing Porter County, and this seat is filled by Harley Snyder,
president of HSC, Inc.
Lake County government and the cities of Hammond, East Chicago and Gary each
get one RDA appointment as well.
The council and the commissioners convened the special meeting Monday because
the RDA seat was up for appointment.
