Without further delay, the Porter County Board of Commissioners will consider the new County Animal Control Ordinance at their meeting on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

A copy of the ordinance to be discussed at the meeting tomorrow has been uploaded on the home page of the Porter County Government website, www.porterco.org, for residents to view.

The Commissioners had originally considered a 27-page version of the ordinance in December but decided to make further changes after local animal breeders and veterinarians objected to technical details listed in the requirements and restrictions proposed for breeding.

The latest version has been trimmed to 18 pages removing much of the language related to breeding. The ordinance does set fee structures for offenses on animal care, vaccinations, bites, waste, dangerous animals, animals running at-large and creating a public nuisance. It will be enforced by officers of County Animal Control and Sheriff’s Police.

In addition, the ordinance describes the impoundment procedures, responsibilities and duties of the County Animal Shelter Director, animal shelter adoption fees and quarantine procedures.

Also on the agenda, Mike Anton of Anton Insurance will present a care management service agreement with INETICARE for the County’s employee health care plan.

The Commissioners will discuss a memorandum for a sign location lease agreement with Lamar Advertising for the rental of County property.

Attorney Don Evans will speak to the Commissioners about a proposal to establish an agency-based guardianship program for Porter County under the auspices of the Family Youth and Services Bureau.

Mike Jabo of DLZ Indiana will ask the Commissioners to approve a request to receive bids for the HVAC equipment replacement project for the Courthouse, Administration Building and the County Jail.

In department head requests, ITS Director Sharon Lippens will ask the Commissioners to approve copier purchase and maintenance agreements for the County Clerk’s office and the Prosecutor’s child support division. Expo Center Director Lori Daly will talk about estimates to repair a parking lot light pole.

Also, members of the Kankakee Historical Society will give an overview of a grant opportunity from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs for the Collier Lodge restoration project.

In plan commission business, the Commissioners will give a second reading on a petition for revisions of the County’s development standards for billboards.

The Commissioners will meet inside Room 205 of the County Administration Building, 155 Indiana Ave. in Valparaiso.
